There are multiple types of images that you might want to insert into a CAD drawing, whether a site aerial, a design sketch, or even a logo sketch. There are also multiple techniques for inserting those images.  This tutorial will highlight three options to insert jpeg images in AutoCad.

Option 1: If you are using the classic interface of the AutoCAD you can execute the following steps:

Select Iinsert from the menu bar, then navigate to Raster Image Reference.

The following screen prompt will appear which will give the option to navigate to and select your jpeg image.

After selecting the desired image and clicking open, the following dialogue box will appear.

You can change the image scale, location, reference type and the image orientation from that box. However, in almost all circumstances, it is recommended that you tweak these options after inserting the image.  For that reason, Click Ok in the dialogue box.

A box will appear and the cursors will Specify the Insertion Point of the bottom left corner of the image.  Simply click any location on the screen, or you can specify the coordinates of the desired location by typing them in.

After selecting the desired location, a dialogue box displaying Specify Scale Factor will appear.  You can move your mouse to adjust the scale of the image and Press Enter.

Option 2: If you are using the Drafting and Annotation interface of the AutoCAD you can follow the following steps:

Select insert from the menu bar, then navigate to Attach.

The following screen prompt should appear which will give the option to navigate and select the desired image.

After selecting the desired image, the following dialogue box will appear.

Option 3: if you need to insert an image directly to AutoCAD without navigating through the options in AutoCAD, you can just drag and drop the desired image from the opened folder that contains the image directly into AutoCAD. After that, you can follow the steps from 3 to 7 in the previous options to achieve the same results.
